Primary Colors, what are they- what is unique about these colors?

Color Values a.k.a. tints,shades,tones:

BLack and White are added to create different values of the hue.

Tints are Lighter in Value. Tints are created by the subtractive mixing of white with a hue. The Saturation (chrome) of the color - or the amount of the hue- is also changed.


Shades are Darker in Value. Shades are created by the subtracitive mixing of black with a hue. The Saturation (chrome) of the color - or the amount of the hue- is also changed.

Tones are created by the subtractive mixing of gray with the hue. Tones are different they change the saturation of the color- with out changing the value. The hue and the value stay the same. (see tones.pdf) Tones are created when the gray value of the hue is mixed with the hue.

The idea behind this project ::

To create a weekly color journal of your portrait applying different elements of color theory

This is to be an on going project for the semester. A portrait of you will be created from a digital photo or a drawing.
Create shapes of grey that distinguish your portrait. This will be a template of sort-

Have fun with project- be creative. You are making a portrait as well as employing different concepts you learned. Work in illustrator. These projects are not about knowing how to use illustrator, so speak tp me if you have trouble with illustrator.

Keep track of digital portrait files, try small paintings in your book - or buy a special book for portraits and color scales.
