The purpose of this research paper is to explore the role of discrete emotions in stereotype formation. Discrete emotions including anger, sadness, and others will be examined as precursors of stereotypes – categories that are heuristically formed when additional information on a subject is limited or unavailable. A research methodology that examines how stereotypes predict various discrete emotion states and how paths to stereotype formation might be hindered or alterered. The impact of the proposed research has implications for psychology, industrial organizations, and interpersonal communication.
