I am a fourth-year Ph.D. student in the clinical psychology program. I was born in New York City , and was raised between both Brazil and New York . Throughout my life I also lived in many parts of the world, including Mexico and Italy . I moved back to the US to attend college and since then have lived in the U.S. Clinically, my work experiences have varied. I have worked at various hospitals and organizations throughout the city providing individual therapy and assessment to many underserved populations. Currently I am at Bellevue 's Bilingual Treatment program where I provide individual counseling to a wide population of Latin Americans.
My areas of interests have emerged through a unique combination of personal, work, as well as life experiences. In particular I am interested in cultural issues concerning mental health and mental health treatment for underserved and minority populations. I am currently working with Dr. Doris Chang and a researcher at Columbia Presbyterian on my dissertation, which examines the relationship between sociocultural factors such has homosexuality and acculturation on HIV self-disclosure in Asian and Pacific Islanders. Non-academically, I enjoy reading, traveling, painting, and knitting. I also enjoy spending time developing and completeing home renovation projects, gardening, and building wood furniture. |
