Form over Function
Today images, visuals are produced, reproduced and manipulated to infinity. In many cases visuals replace words. Our world "talks" in images + sound bites. As a visuals person images are an important part of my life. By taking this course I hope to gain a theoretical understanding, a kind of aerial view to the way visuals and symbols make meaning in our culture. I hope to develope a critical comprehention to effective visual representation.

My first blogging, bloggit, blogg...
Anyway thanks for the invitation. My name is Jonathan Ellis. I've enrolled in this course because everyone needs a toolbox, and if one doesn't have the right tool for the right job, all is lost (or at least delayed;] It appears to me that this is the place in which to find the right tools.
My interest in visual studies is as one immersed in a world of visual input. As one involved in the output of same, I wouldn't have it any other way. In the past I've worked as a bronze sculptor and mold maker. Letting go of the 3-D aspect of sculpture I've moved in the direction of pixels and film - sculpting instead, in time and motion. Currently as a degree student at the New School with concentrations in Film and Media Studies I write, direct and produce my own films and DV's.
