BA Core Faculty Michelle Materre Interviews Filmmakers

Tuesday October 21st - HBO Frame by Frame Festival at The Screening
Room, Canal and West Broadway. The film starts at 6:30pm, The Screening
Room, 54 Varick St., New York, NY - cost: $5 day of show at Screening
Room box office. Michelle will be interviewing actress/filmmaker Lisa Gay
Hamilton around 8:00pm about her new film - BEAH: A BLACK WOMAN SPEAKS
which reveals the remarkable life of the African American actress, poet,
teacher, dancer and political activist, Beah Richards. From Vicksburg,
Mississippi to Broadway to Hollywood, Beah remained committed to two
cultures she loved deeply, the arts and the African American community.
This is a story of a revolutionary's tireless struggle for freedom
through her artistry. The film is 86 minutes and is followed by a Q&A
with the filmmaker which Michelle will be leading.

Sunday, October 26th at 2:00pm, Michelle will be interviewing Madeline
Anderson, the first African American woman to produce a series for
Public Television in the 1960's about her life's work. The Hatch Billops
Collection, presents the interview as part of their monthly "Artists and
Influence" salon series at 491 Broadway, 7th floor at the corner of
