American Museum of the Moving Image Summer 2004 Internships
Summer Internships June 7-August 13, 2004
The American Museum of the Moving Image offers paid summer internships. Interns work on projects under the guidance of museum professionals and learn about the full range of museum operations. Undergraduates entering their senior year in the fall or 2004, college graduates, and graduate students are eligible to apply.
Moving Image is the only institution of its kind in the United States, studied and admired worldwide for its innovative approach to exhibition design and its adventurous film, television, and digital media programs. The Museum holds the nation's largest collection of material objects related to the art, history, and technology of motion pictures and television.
Internship Descriptions
Film: Assist in research related to screening programs; research, write, and produce program notes. Assist with research and production of three major online exhibitions: The Living Room Candidate: A History of Presidential Campaign Commercials; The Sloan Foundation Science and Film Website; and The Pinewood Dialogues.
Digital Media: Perform research, and take part in production-related and administrative tasks for web-based projects. Assist in setup and configuration of computer=based systems for changing exhibits.
Collections: Assist staff with a comprehensive location inventory project involving the impressive variety of artifacts held within the collection and the unique handling, descriptive, and storage needs of each artifact type.
Communications and Marketing: Assist with writing and distribution of press releases, conduct research for publicity campaigns, and update media and community contacts.
Applicants must submit the following:
1. Cover letter and resume;
2. A 300 word statement describing your interest in interning with one of the departments listed above, and your reasons for selecting that department;
3. A 50 word statement indicating which department would be your second choice and your reasons for selecting that department;
4. One letter of recommendation from a professor.
Applications must be received no later than April 9, 2004.
Finalist will be interviewed in person or by phone. Successful applicants will be notified no later than May 5.
