NSF-REU Research Opportunity

GLOBALIZATION UNDER THE MICROSCOPE: IS NAFTA GOOD FOR FAMILY NUTRITION?

Students receive a $2400 stipend for 8 weeks in Mexico, all expenses (travel, housing, food) covered by NSF-REU. Students must be fluent/conversant in Spanish. The National Science Foundation requires that students be US Citizens or Permanent Residents. Ideally students will be in their 2nd or 3rd year of college. Fast Facts about the NSF-REU Mexico Program
Where: Cuernavaca, Mexico will be the home base (south of Mexico City)
Dates: June 15 to August 15 (approximate), 2004
Stipend: Students receive $300 per week (total of $2400 for 8 weeks)
Expenses: All transportation, lodging and food are included
Faculty: Professors Debra Martin and Margaret Cerullo, Hampshire College
Spanish: Students must have very good conversational Spanish
Status: Students must be U.S. citizens (NSF requirement)
Background: Coursework in the Natural or Social Sciences, or Latin American Studies
Research: Students will participate in a large nutritional assessment project in three communities in Morelos, Mexico using biological and cultural measures; students will also design and carry out an individual project
