CINEPHILIA Presents "Daughters of the Dust"

On Friday, October 21st, CINEPHILIA will screen the critically acclaimed classic independent film, "Daughters of the Dust" by Julie Dash. The film will be introduced by New School faculty member Michelle Materre (a recipient of this year's Distinguished University Teaching Award) , co-founder of KJM3 Entertainment Group, the film marketing and distribution company responsible for the successful theatrical release of the film in 1992. The film won best cinematography at Sundance Film Festival in 1991, and became part of the National Film Registry in 2004. Its nationwide release in 18 markets in 1992 made it the first film by an African American woman director to receive a national theatrical release. Please come join us for this exceptional evening of cinema.
