MICHAEL COHEN - THE FUTURE of the AFRICAN CITY

PROJECT AFRICA Presents:

MICHAEL COHEN - THE FUTURE OF THE AFRICAN CITY

Friday November 10 6-8pm

66 W 12th St, Rm 510

Michael Cohen presents a lecture on Africa's urban realities, challenges and opportunities. Some of the questions that will be addressed in this talk include how the African city is represented in various forms of discourse: policy, research, and popular culture. What are the languages and categories used to portray the African city? What is known about the dynamics of the African city itself? What are some of its defining characteristics and how is it different from cities in other parts of the world? What are the institutions and values which guide African cities - not just formal municipal institutions or conventional policy issues such as participation or transparency, but also a more sociological definition of institutions which includes patterns of both formal and informal behavior.

Talk will be followed by a discussion, we hope you can attend!
