Girls Write Now is currently seeking interns or volunteers to start immediately to help plan the 1st ever Girls Write Now Day, March 8, 2007 (also International Women’s Day).

Coordinators needed for local, national, (and international?) events. Hours flexible. Not necessary to be located in NYC. Academic credit can be arranged. Opportunities also available in:
- Public relations & communications
- Website development and maintenance
- Editing, copywriting and research
- Fundraising and development
- Advisory board development
- Programming support
- Event planning
- Other tasks as needed
We are seeking people with expertise in these areas and/or folks willing to plunge in and get immediate, hands-on experience. Interns & volunteers report to Caroline Berger, Maya Nussbaum (Exec.Dir.) and/or another mentor volunteer on the GWN Board of Directors.

We have no funding to compensate interns financially, though you will earn the adoration of about 70+ girls and women ranging in age from 13-70 for helping us keep Girls Write Now alive as we head into our 10th year!
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY celebrates the story of ordinary women as makers of history; it is rooted in the centuries-old struggle of women to participate in society on an equal footing with men. GIRLS WRITE NOW DAY honors the younger generation as makers of the future! Girls Write Now Day is Girls Write Everywhere Day. It is an event to encourage girls of all ages everywhere in the world to put pen to paper and explore the beauty and power of their unique, creative voices. It is a day to celebrate girls, girl writers, and overall girl awesomeness.
GIRLS WRITE NOW INC. (GWN) is a phenomenal non-profit that gives at-risk NYC high school girls with emerging writing talent the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be matched with a customized professional woman writer who serves as her mentor, meeting with her in-person once a week, for the duration of an entire school year, and for up to four years. GWN also enrolls each girl ("mentee") in a vibrant writing community--all mentors and mentees gather monthly for rigorous, spirited, genre-based workshops conducted at Teachers & Writers Collaborative in midtown. BOYS WRITE, TOO? We are often asked if a similar organization exists for high school boys interested in writing. Sadly, it does not, as far as we are aware. But Maya co-founded Girls Write Now while she was in college, so we welcome interested parties to intern with us and then run with the idea . . .
