Please join the Dept of Psychology for the following talks, presented by Dr. Tomi Ann Roberts. Dr. Roberts, a social psychologist at Colorado College, is co-author of Objectification Theory (Fredrickson & Roberts, 1998), a psychological theory that explains how objectification of the female body may affect girls' and women's mental health. In a relatively short time, this theory has generated significant interest, including several papers linking self-objectification with increased risk for eating disorders, body shame, and decreased math performance, among other outcomes. Dr. Roberts recently served on the American Psychological Association's recent task force on the increasing sexualization of girls in the media. http://www.apa.org/releases/sexualization.html
